The language of bugs
There is a symbiotic relationship between bugs and botanicals. Flowers attract many bugs to potentially assist with pollination, and botanical nectar is a key food source for many types of bugs. Overall we can say that bugs are very tuned in to the complexities of botanical scents and Lea-Anne, our founder has created a unique blend that broadcasts a very distinct message in the language of ‘bug botanics’.

“Flowers use colour and scent to draw in specific insects. Scents are very complex and made of many compounds that insects can differentiate from. How botanicals offer bite protection
Also according to Riffell, mosquitoes are not drawn to ALL flowers. Some flowers have varying levels of chemical compounds in their scent that mosquitoes are NOT attracted to. The mosquitoes then deem these flowers as NOT a food source.
“Mosquitoes are processing the ratio of chemicals, not just the presence or absence of them,” said Riffell. “This isn’t just important for flower discrimination – it’s also important for how mosquitoes discern between you and I. Human scent is very complex, and what is probably important for attracting or repelling mosquitoes is the ratio of particular chemicals.
